Our Purpose

Why We Exist as a Church . . .

The purpose of

Duncanville's First Baptist Church

is to help people discover a personal and intimate

relationship with God by . . .

Devoting

ourselves to Worship, Bible Study and Prayer

Demonstrating

His Love by being a Family,

Dedicated

to taking God's love to our world.

The purpose of our Church is based upon two key scriptures:

The Great Commandment:  Matthew 22:36-40 (KJV)  Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.  This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.  On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

The Great Commission:  Matthew 28:19-20 (KJV)  Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

I.        We Exist to Worship, Celebrating God’s Presence (Worship)

“We worship the Lord your God, and serve Him only.”  Matthew 4:10

Someone has said,  “God did not create us for careers; He created us to worship Him!”  To fail to worship is to fail in the critical area of living! There is no substitute for worship, for corporate worship; Evangelism is not a substitute, nor is enthusiasm, or great learning, or even private worship:  “Let all the people praise Thee.”  Worship is an end in itself, and it requires no further justification than that God is God!

         Expressions of Worship:

  Singing Lord's Supper Praying Meditating
Baptism Commitment Giving Hearing the Bible Taught

II.    We Exist To Communicate God’s Word (Evangelism)

Why Our Church Must Never Stop Growing

Because God wants all to know Him personally through repentance.

“The Lord... is patient, not wanting anyone to perish; but wants everyone to come to repentance.”

2 Peter 3:92 Corinthians 5:18-20; Luke 15:3-10; Matthew 9:12-13

Because the church is instructed to invite all who will come, to come to Him.

“Go into the country... and urge anyone you find to come in, so that My house may be full.”  Luke 14:23
“...you will by My witnesses...”  Acts 1:8

Because God is involved in the growth of His church.

“Under Christ’ control, the whole body is nourished... and grow as God wants it to grow.” Colossians 2: 19

“(Jesus) I will build My church.”  Matthew 16: 8

Un-Biblical Excuses For Not Growing   Examples heard once in a while . . .

(1)  “God isn’t interested in numbers.”

(2)  “Our church wants quality, not quantity.”

(3)  “Large numbers are impersonal.”

We believe our church must grow in quantity and in quality  at the same time.

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,  and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."  Matthew 28:19-20

III.    We Exist To Educate God’s People  (Discipleship)

“Let us leave the elementary teaching about Christ and go on to maturity . . .”  Hebrews 6:1

“Grow in grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.”  2 Peter 3:18

IV.    We Exist To Demonstrate God’s Love  (Ministry)

“By this shall all men know that you are my disciples- that you have love for one another.”

John 13:3; I John 3:16-17; Matthew 25:34-40; Hebrews 13:16; Romans 12:13

A major goal of Duncanville’s First Baptist Church is that all our members get involved in a ministry. Every member needs to be a part of one.   “Now God gives us many kinds of special abilities.. There are different kinds of service to God (ministry).

. . . All of you together are the one body of Christ and each of you is separate and necessary part of it.”  I Corinthians 12:4-5, 27
